Rib draws a spine down the centre of the chest with paired bars branching out, like a skeleton showing through the armor. It is grim and theatrical, and fits wither skeleton hunters perfectly. Quartz gives a bone-white look; redstone looks freshly forged.
Where to find the Rib template
Nether fortresses are long bridges and corridors of nether bricks. They tend to run along the Nether's Z axis, so travelling north or south raises your chance of crossing one.
Chests are found in corridor alcoves and stairway ends rather than in big rooms. Fortresses can stretch a long way, so follow each branch to its end.
Field tips
- Blazes are most dangerous in the open. Fight them from inside a corridor with a fire resistance potion active.
- Wither skeletons cause the wither effect. A shield and a milk bucket keep fights short.
- If you are hunting wither skeleton skulls anyway, loot every chest you pass for Rib.
Chance to find Rib
Each of the fortress chests you check has a 6.7% chance to contain the template. Enter how many you plan to check to see your odds of finding at least one.
Odds shown are for Java Edition. Bedrock Edition loot tables can differ slightly.
How to duplicate Rib
Templates are used up at the smithing table, so copy yours before you apply it. The recipe costs seven diamonds and one netherrack, and gives you two templates.
Applying the trim
At a smithing table, put the template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and your trim material in the third. Repeat for each piece. Each piece takes one template, so a full set needs four.
