Shaper Armor Trim
Shaper is the builder's trim, dug out of the same buried trail ruins as Wayfinder, Raiser and Host.

Shaper uses blocky, checkered panels that look like stacked bricks or tiles, which fits a trim named after the people who build things. It is busy, so it works best with a calm armor base like iron or netherite and a single bold trim material.
Where to find the Shaper template
Search taiga, snowy taiga, old growth taiga, old growth birch forest and jungle biomes for the tops of trail ruins: a few terracotta or brick blocks sticking out of the soil, often near a path of gravel.
Excavate outward and downward, then brush every suspicious gravel block you uncover. Shaper has an 8.3% chance per rare roll.
Field tips
- Work from the top down so loose gravel does not collapse onto suspicious blocks.
- Glazed terracotta in a ruin often marks a room. Rare gravel tends to sit near walls and floors.
- An efficiency shovel speeds up clearing ordinary gravel, which takes up most of a dig.

How to duplicate Shaper
Templates are used up at the smithing table, so copy yours before you apply it. The recipe costs seven diamonds and one terracotta, and gives you two templates.
Applying the trim
At a smithing table, put the template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and your trim material in the third. Repeat for each piece. Each piece takes one template, so a full set needs four.

How do you duplicate the Shaper trim?
At a crafting table, place the Shaper template in the top-middle slot, a terracotta in the centre and diamonds in the other seven slots. You get two Shaper templates back.
How many gravel brushed does it take to find Shaper?
On average about 12. After 8 you have a better-than-even chance, and after 27 you are about 90% likely to have found one.
When was the Shaper trim added?
It arrived in Java Edition 1.20, the Trails & Tales update, released in June 2023.
Can Shaper be found in chests?
No. It only comes from brushing suspicious gravel in trail ruins.
Is terracotta needed for duplication?
Yes. Any plain terracotta block works. You can smelt clay blocks to get it.
