Vex has the best odds of any trim: every chest in a woodland mansion has a coin-flip chance to hold one. The catch is finding a mansion at all.

Vex uses sharp, angled strokes that sweep across the chest like folded wings. It suits darker armor and cold trim materials. Pairing it with amethyst or lapis gives a sorcerous look that fits the illagers who guard it.
Where to find the Vex template
Woodland mansions generate only in dark forests and are often thousands of blocks from spawn. The reliable way to find one is a woodland explorer map, which journeyman cartographer villagers sell. The map marks the nearest mansion.
Inside, the chests are spread through bedrooms, storage rooms and secret rooms on every floor. Explore methodically. With 50% per chest, a full sweep of a mansion almost always turns up at least one Vex template, and often several.
Field tips
- Evokers summon vexes that fly through walls. Kill the evoker first, and keep the totem of undying it drops.
- Vindicators hit hard. Fight them in doorways and keep your shield up.
- Mark cleared rooms with torches. Mansion corridors look identical and are easy to get lost in.
Chance to find Vex
Each of the mansion chests you check has a 50% chance to contain the template. Enter how many you plan to check to see your odds of finding at least one.

How to duplicate Vex
Templates are used up at the smithing table, so copy yours before you apply it. The recipe costs seven diamonds and one cobblestone, and gives you two templates.
Applying the trim
At a smithing table, put the template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and your trim material in the third. Repeat for each piece. Each piece takes one template, so a full set needs four.

Is Vex rare?
