Sentry Armor Trim
Sentry is the first trim most players stumble on. Every pillager outpost has exactly one loot chest, and one in four of them holds the template.

The pattern is built from straight, upright lines. It reads as disciplined and a little military, which suits players who want a clean, readable silhouette over something ornate. Because it is not busy, it is also one of the best trims for showing off a strong trim material colour.
Where to find the Sentry template
Pillager outposts are dark-oak watchtowers that spawn in the same open terrain villages like: plains, deserts, savannas, taigas and snowy plains, plus some mountain biomes. Look for a tall grey-and-brown tower with a banner on top. Pillagers patrol the area, and a captain often stands guard.
The only loot chest sits on the top floor of the tower. Climb the ladder, clear the pillagers, and check it. If it is empty of templates, the next outpost is usually not far away, because outposts are fairly common near village clusters.
Field tips
- Killing a captain gives you an ominous bottle. Drinking it starts a raid at the next village you enter, so drop the bottle if you are not ready for one.
- A shield blocks most crossbow volleys and makes the climb far safer.
- Allays and iron golems are sometimes caged at outposts. Free them for an early helper.
Chance to find Sentry
Each of the outpost chests you check has a 25% chance to contain the template. Enter how many you plan to check to see your odds of finding at least one.

How to duplicate Sentry
Templates are used up at the smithing table, so copy yours before you apply it. The recipe costs seven diamonds and one cobblestone, and gives you two templates.
Applying the trim
At a smithing table, put the template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and your trim material in the third. Repeat for each piece. Each piece takes one template, so a full set needs four.

On average about 4. After 3 you have a better-than-even chance, and after 9 you are about 90% likely to have found one.
When was the Sentry trim added?
It arrived in Java Edition 1.20, the Trails & Tales update, released in June 2023.
Do pillager outposts respawn their loot?
No. Each chest is generated once. To roll again you need to find another outpost.
Can I get the Sentry trim on peaceful?
Yes. Chests generate the same way regardless of difficulty, and on peaceful the pillagers will not be there.
